What is the Gospel?

what is the gospel?

I keep on hearing this word during Sunday church service and I feel to share this issue to others because I think many people misunderstood it. here is a few understanding about the gospel;

Others understand it as the word of god or the bible.
Others understand it as the gospel of Mathew, Luke, John, Mark in the Bible,
Others understand it as the good news, the good news about Jesus, and still others understand it as the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

Before we share the gospel, we should understand first what the gospel really is for the genuine salvation of the one who hears it.
The gospel literally means the "good news" the good news of what? the good news about Jesus, his birth, death, and resurrection.
The gospel talks about who Jesus is, what he did, and why he came into this world. it also talks about heaven, man, sin, God, and faith.
We should include all of these in sharing the gospel to a person to fully understand the salvation of God.

Now let's talk each of them.

Heaven is a free gift, romans 6:23 in the second part tells us that, "....but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Heaven is not earned or deserved, heaven is a free gift so we don't need to earn it nor we deserve it. Ephesians 2:8-9 says that, "for it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast."

But we cannot simply receive this gift because of sin.

Man is a sinner and are separated from God because of sin. God loved us so much that he gave his son to us that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life (Jn. 3:16). The bible says that, "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

God, the Bible tells us that God is love and therefore he cannot afford to punish us, but the same Bible also tells us that God is just and therefore he must punish sin. God is holy therefore we must be holy, God is perfect therefore, he required us to be perfect. on the one hand God loves us but on the other hand God  is just and He must punish sin. the Bible says that He will not go sin unpunished. we have a problem, and God solved this problem by sending His Son for us.

Jesus, paid the penalty for our sin, the bible says that, "God demonstrates his own love for us in this, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Rom. 5:8)

There is nothing we can do to pay the penalty for our sin, the bible says that, the wages of sin is death. if we could, the death of Jesus would be in vain, therefore Jesus died on the cross for nothing. if we could, then God would not sent his son first of all. Only by the blood of Jesus that we can be cleanse from all of our unrighteousness.

The penalty of sin is death, an eternal separation from god, but Jesus offers us the free gift of eternal life, and we need to accept this gift that we might have eternal life in God. Why, because there's no other way, Jesus said that I am the way, the truth, and the life and no one comes to the Father except through me.

To accept this offer is by trusting in Jesus alone for our salvation, trusting in him alone on what He did on the cross.

The bible says, that to all who received Him, He gave the right to become children of God. Therefore we need to accept Jesus in our heart, in our life to be our lord and savior. It means to put our faith in Jesus alone. Faith that saves.

In my next article i will be talking about faith, what is faith and what is not. All of us have faith, but what faith that can save?

How to share your faith effectively?

Sharing your faith to others is not an easy way to do that is why many people are not sharing.

Are you not sharing your faith  because you are not trained for it or is it awkward for you?

Do you have the desires to do it but you are just afraid to do it because of fear, like fear of rejection.

Today is the right time for to start sharing. I will be helping you to share you some principles and guidelines to follow when sharing your faith to a completely stranger, to a friend, to a relative, or to your family members.

These guidelines and principles are proven to be more effective in winning the hearts of the person you are sharing with.

Principles and Guidelines when sharing your faith;

a. always remember that you cannot convert the person on your own power, converting is not your work but the work of the holy spirit.
b. always pray before and after you share your faith and rebuke the work of the enemies that would hinder in the process of sharing your faith.
c. always give thanks to God whatever the result may be whether he/she will reject you. Just remember that he/she is not rejecting you but the gospel, but the word of God and not you.
d. start the conversation nice and end it nicely.
e. at first, when you approach a stranger, do not proceed to the gospel directly but know the person first and make friends with that person and look for spring board to the gospel. when you encounter a spring board, it will be the right time to share your faith and start by asking good diagnostic questions to determine if the person is genuinely save or not.

         Two Sample Diagnostic Questions

1. If you are going to die today, do you think you will be with God in heaven?
2. If God would ask you why would I let you enter into my heaven what would you say?
